New Delhi: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has upgraded a lot of its existing services to help serve its customers better. The revamped IRCTC website has a horde of provisions for not only cancelling booked tickets but also numerous other features such as finding stations, train departure schedules, and even changing the boarding station.
The ‘change boarding station’ provision provides a huge relief to passengers who might have had a change of plan (or mind) at the last moment. All a user has to do is log into his/her IRCTC account and request a change in boarding point. However, customers should know that the facility applies only in the case of online bookings, according to IRCTC.
Worth mentioning that there are certain rules and guidelines involved in the event where you need to change your boarding point. Having said that, here is what you have to do to change your boarding point:

After you are redirected the bookings history page, you can select the train booking for which you want to change the boarding point. Before moving ahead, make sure you have chosen the correct train.
After you have selected the train, all you need to do is click on ‘change boarding point’ option and you will be redirected again to the ‘Change Boarding Point’ page. On this page, you can see details of the particular train for which you want to alter the booking details. Click on the ‘New Boarding Station’ tab from the drop-down menu located under the Change Boarding Station option. On this page, you can change the boarding station.
Rules to follow
For passengers who are looking to change their boarding station, it is mandatory to that you book the tickets online via IRCTC. The passenger has the option to change boarding station up to 24 hours before the scheduled train departure. As mentioned earlier, customers who have brought their tickets offline and not through travel agents will not be eligible to change boarding station.
Once a boarding point is changed, a customer cannot board a train from the original station in the event of a change in boarding point.
Worth mentioning that customers will be given just one go to change boarding station.
It should also be noted any passenger found boarding from another point may be subjected to a penalty based on the distance between the original boarding point and revised boarding point. Customers should also note that online boarding point change is not even applicable for I-Ticket.
